LET THE LITTLE LIGHT SHINE was nominated for a News and Documentary Emmy in Outstanding Current Affairs Documentary category. The News & Documentary Emmy Awards honor the work of dedicated professionals working at the highest level of the broadcast journalism and documentary filmmaking professions
APRIL 2023.
LET THE LITTLE LIGHT SHINE was nominated for a Peabody Award. The Peabodys honor excellence in storytelling that reflects the social issues and the emerging voices of our day.
JANUARY 2023.
Frontline PBS named Kevin Shaw a 2023 FRONTLINE/Firelight Media Filmmaker Fellow. The program, now entering its fifth year, provides funding for Shaw to produce a short film. After a festival run, Shaw’s documentary short will be distributed on FRONTLINE´s streaming platforms.
JUNE 2022.
Kevin Shaw was named a 2022 Wyncote Fellow. The Wyncote Fellowship is a collaboration between PBS Indies partners and helps independent filmmakers better understand the public media landscape through one-on-one meetings and curated events.
FEBRUARY 2022.
LET THE LITTLE LIGHT SHINE has its world premiere at the True/False Film Festival March 4-6, 2022 in Columbia, MO and screens at SXSW:EDU March 7, 2022 in Austin, TX.
OCTOBER 2020.
CITY SO REAL, a new documentary series from Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Steve James, premieres on National Geographic Films and Hulu October 29th. Kevin Shaw worked as an additional cinematographer on the project.
SEPTEMBER 2020.
LET THE LITTLE LIGHT SHINE (formerly known as A Place to Learn) is #ITVSFunded. The film looks at a high achieving elementary school in Chicago that's a beacon for Black children, until gentrification threatens its closure.
JULY 2020.
FIRELIGHT MEDIA asked me to write about my experiences participating in their documentary lab fellowship. Here's what I wrote: "Feeling Empowered and Focused on Checking Imbalance within Documentary Filmmaking."
NOVEMBER 2019.
